-History: The Asathai have a long past filled with war and strife. Their recorded history goes back about 2000 UY (Union Years). Like most sapient species, the Asathai were divided up into nations, and often got into armed conflicts with eachother. Not much of note occurred until about 500 years ago, when the Asathai nations fell into a massive world war. The war ended when it went nuclear, and much of the planet was decimated by nuclear strikes and reduced to irradiated desert. Several nations survived mostly unscathed, thanks to experimental laser defense systems destroying the nuclear missiles before they could hit. The surviving nations banded together out of a common goal: escape Indath. The planet would not be able to support Asathai life for at least 200 years. They quickly developed the means to begin colonizing the rest of their solar system, Tekkan. The first Asathai landed on Ilkith, the nearest planet to Indath, 437 years ago.
But the Asathai were still a young and warlike species, and the peace did not last. Eventually the colonies wanted independance, and broke off from the Unified Asathai Government... sometimes violently. The colonies then fought amongst themselves over resources, ideology, territory and some of the most petty things ever. The UAG fought to bring the colonies back under its heels, but they were outnumbered by the colonial militias. The Interplanetary Wars as they were called dragged on for decades, finally ending 379 years ago, 40 years after they began. Many colonies had been outright annihilated, while others had survived and grew into prosperous societies. The war was devastating enough that the Asathai were set back at least one hundred fifty years, and would not develop space travel again until 223 years ago.
Eventually they recovered their lost technology, but they were still divided. With their homeworld Indath now recovering from the nuclear war, and the colonies having access to other planets again, a race to recolonize the homeworld began. It ended as soon as it began, because one colony, Ilkith, was already their. They had more advanced technology than the other Asathai, why exactly is not known. It is possible they lost less in the Interplanetary Wars, or they were simply smarter. In any case, most of the other colonies were militarily weak, while Ilkith was strong. They had been preparing for this day for a long time. They swept through the Tekkan system, violently or peacefully absorbing all of the other colonies into their domain. After the insurrections died down 194 years ago, the Asathai entered into an age of peace under Ilkith's rule.
137 years ago, on the anniversary of the first Asathai landing on Ilkith, the Unified Asathai Government unveiled their latest scientific advancement: An FTL Drive. Hyperdrive, to be specific. They had developed it and the ship that would test it in secret for the last 10 years, and had decided to reveal it to the public on this historic day. The first Asathai FTL spacecraft, the ASV Eternal, went from Indath to Ilkith in minutes, rather than the months it took conventional spacecraft. With the drive working properly, the UAG greenlit the Exploration Project. The Eternal and other ships like it would begin exploring and colonizing other systems.

-Physical Appearance: They stand at about 4 feet tall, with pale skin. They look a lot like typical fantasy dwarves. They have long beards, with brown or blonde hair. Their eyes are usually dark brown.

-History: The Dwerin have the longest recorded history out of all of the Union races. It goes back about 4000 UY (Union Years). During their history the Dwerin were not particularly warlike. On their homeworld of Dakaar they constructed great works of stone, building massive mountainhalls. Besides small wars between the Mountain Kingdoms, the Dwerin were a fairly peaceful species, content to sit in their halls and mine the world for riches. Then came their industrial revolution. The Dwerin had always had an industrial mind, but when true industry could be made they did so. Quickly, they began to pollute their world. 1300 years ago they had reached the technology level of modern humans, but were polluting far worse. Their mountainhalls had become giant factories, pumping pollutants into the air. They didn't realize how damaging they were being to their planet until the damage had been done. Dakaar would be rendered uninhabitable within 100 years due to the greenhouse effect raising the temperature. The Dwerin went to space, and did what they did best: mined and built.
Dakaar had an extensive ring system, made up of captured asteroids that were as large as the mountains on the surface. The Dwerin carved out some of these asteroids and inside of them built cities. But even then they weren't safe, as resources began to run out and it was necessary that the Dwerin leave the gravity well of their own planet. 1000 years ago, after about 300 years living primarily in the asteroid belt of their homeworld and watching it slowly die, the asteroid cities became cityships. The Dwerin modified them with gigantic engines, and left their solar system which they had already picked clean. They became wanderers, going between star systems at slower than light speeds and devouring the resources of any solar system they came accross, ruining any habitable planets in the process.
400 years ago, they came across the Erythn on a colony established by Erythn generational ships. First contact with an alien race was an exciting prospect, but the Erythn knew what the Dwerin had done in the past to the planets they landed on. The Erythn saw this as an affront to their religion, which was that the universe was sacred and should not be defiled as was the will of the Creator. The Erythn attacked the Dwerin fleet, which struck back. They had a significantly large fleet of military ships, but the Erythn had the home field advantage. This was their solar system, and within it was the means of starship production. After six months of fighting, the Dwerin knew they couldn't take much more and took a final action against the colony out of sheer desperation. They bombarded it with nuclear weapons, killing everything on the planet. They were able to escape, and they returned to wandering, shaken and their supplies depleted.
87 years ago when they were crossing the void between star systems, they encountered an anomaly. Their flagship, the Dwardrukar, was sent at FTL speeds to a distant solar system, several light years from the fleet. They believed it lost. In the 1000 years they had been wandering, the Dwerin had become technologically stagnant and never developed FTL drives. They couldn't get to the Dwardrukar and it couldn't get to them. Then the Asathai found it.

-Physical Appearance: Varies between Forms.
Warrior: The most basic Krath Form, and also the most common. They are 7 feet, or 2.1 meters, tall. Their carapace is black with a green sheen. They have spines running down their backs, which can be folded down. They have two large outer mandibles with a smaller set of inner mandibles, both very sharp and serrated. They are digitigrade, and have three fingers and toes which end in hooked, serrated claws. They have two red glowing compound eyes on their heads.
Krath Warrior Form.
Builder: A weak, non-combat oriented Form, Builders are one of the more common Krath Forms. They are 6 feet, or 1.8 meters, tall. Their carapace is dark green with a green sheen. They are digitigrade, and have three pairs of arms, ending in five fingers with small claws. They have five toes ending in small claws. They have a single sharp set of mandibles. They have two red glowing compound eyes.
Warmonger: A more powerful, larger variant of the Warrior. They often lead squads of Warriors into battle. They are 9 feet, or 2.7 meters, tall. Their carapace is black with a green sheen. They have two rows of spines running down their backs, which can be folded down and are very sharp. They have two pairs of arms, one below the other. The lower arms end in scythe-like blades. They have one set of mandibles, which is sharp and serrated. They are digitigrade, and have three fingers and toes which end in hooked, serrated claws. They have four red glowing compound eyes on their heads. Their back eyes are larger and slightly higher than the front eyes.
Warlord: The second most powerful Krath Form, capable of commanding armies. While the Titan form is more powerful, the Warlord is a battlefield commander. They stand at 9 feet, or 2.7 meters. Their carapace is dark green with a brighter green sheen. They have two pairs of mandibles. The inner ones are smaller, and both are very sharp. They are digitigrade, with three pairs of arms, the bottom two ending in five fingers with hooked, serrated claws. The top pair of arms has two large scythe-like blades. They have three five, ending in hooked, serrated claws. They have four red glowing compound eyes. The back eyes are larger and slightly higher than the front eyes.
Titan: The most powerful Form, and also the largest. Standing at 15 feet or 4.5 meters, they can barely fit on Union ships, having to uncomfortably crouch down. Their carapace is dark green with a brighter green sheen. They have a row of spines running down their backs, capable of being folded down. They have two pairs of mandibles, the inner ones smaller than the outer ones. Both are very sharp and serrated. They are digitigrade, with two pairs of arms. The top arms have giant scythe-like blades. The bottom arms have three fingers with hooked claws. They have three toes with hooked claws. They have long, prehensile tails ending in a long barb. The tails have spikes going down the sides, to stab enemies when whipping, and are manueverable enough to curl around things and grasp them. They have four red glowing compound eyes, the back eyes slightly higher and larger than the front.

-History: (I got lazy, that's why it's so short) Much of the history of the Krath has been lost due to constant wars wiping out civilization. Their most recent recorded history began about 700 years ago, after a war that decimated their race. The Krath continued to fight amongst themselves, having several more major wars, until 242 years ago, when the nation of Telka conquered their entire planet. Being Krath, however, rebellions soon formed, plunging their world into war once again. Finally, after 40 years of civil war, the rebellions began to die down. The Krath began expanding into space, developing FTL travel and colonizing several star systems. It was mostly peaceful, however the peace would not last. Individual colonies began warring between eachother. The central Krath empire attempted to quell the infighting, resulting in yet another war. This one, however, was over quickly, with most of the Krath remaining unified. The war did cost the Krath several colonies, however, setting back their expansion considerably.

-History: 87 years ago, while charting an unknown system, the aging ASV Eternal discovered the Dwerin city ship Dwardrukar. The ship was broadcasting a distress signal; they were running low on supplies and needed help. The Asathai, now a peaceful race, answered their call for help and sent several supply ships to aid them. Due to a strange anomaly, the Dwardrukar had been flung several light years from the rest of the Dwerin fleet. The Dwerin had no means of FTL, and travelled between star systems at near the speed of light. The Dwardrukar would never be able to catch up with its fleet. The Asathai, though, had FTL, and offered it to them with no strings attached. The Dwerin happily accepted, and with the help of Asathai engineers fitted the drive to their ship. The Asathai began to search the stars for the Dwerin fleet. Eventually they located it, and sent the Dwardrukar the coordinates. The Dwerin on board were re-united with their fleet and thanked the Asathai for their help. The two species became trading partners, with the Asathai giving the Dwerin more FTL drives in exchange for advanced Dwerin craftsmanship. This alliance was the beginning of the Union.
The peace did not last, and soon the Dwerin's old enemy, the Erythn, found them again while they were conducting a trade with Asathai cargo ships. The Erythn attacked both species, destroying several of the Asathai vessels while one escaped. The Dwerin fleet was decimated by the surprise attack, but their military arm repelled the Erythn for the time being. 76 years ago, the Interstellar War began.
The Asathai and Dwerin fought valiantly against the Erythn, but they were outmatched in both technology and numbers. They were losing the war, and quickly. The Erythn, citing their reason for the conflict as the Asathai and Dwerin "violating" the universe with their "filth", began to glass Asathai colony worlds with orbital plasma bombardment. Desperate for a safe haven, Asathai ships searched the stars for somewhere safe to hide from the Erythn's wrath. They didn't find anywhere, but they did find their salvation. A race called the Krath. They had found the Krath colony of Ordelan, a backwater place with only 300,000 residents. The Asathai attempted to engage in diplomatic relations with the warlike Krath, but they were not making much progress. The Erythn had followed them there, though, and attacked the Asathai ships in orbit of the colony. They also attacked the Krath ships they had been dealing with, destroying the Krath and Asathai fleets. The Asathai never the less had fought bravely against the Erythn to protect the colony, despite not knowing much about the Krath and their current relationship being icy.
This earned the Krath's respect, and it also earned the Erthyn their anger. The Krath had a massive military, both in space and on the ground, and entered into an alliance with the Dwerin and Asathai to put a stop to the Erythn's aggression. With renewed strength and vigor, the proto-Union attacked the Erythn in their own territory, burning their worlds in retaliation for the burning of their own. Some say the three races went too far in their retribution, but many say it was deserved. The Dwerin and Krath, who had initially had tense relations towards eachother, soon grew to respect one another.
However, the war was still in favor of the Erythn. To turn the tide, a joint operation by all three races to capture an Erythn cruiser was drawn up. The plan was succesfull, and Asathai scientists succesfully reverse engineered some of the Erythn's technology. This turned the tide in the favor of the alliance, and they crushed the Erythn.
The war ended when the alliance found the Erythn homeworld of Etyyr and with all of their military might smashed through its defenses. A decision now had to be made. Conquer the planet, or bombard it into nothing? The decision that was made was perhaps the wrong one, and one that would scar the Union's history for a long time and haunt those involved (and not involved). The allied fleet took position in orbit and commenced bombardment, the final act of vengeance after ten long years of war. 66 years ago, the races of the Union committed near-total genocide. The Erythn homeworld burned, and all on its surface died in nuclear fire. It is believed that some Erythn are still alive somewhere in the universe, biding their time until they can return and end the Union.
Since the end of the war the races kept close ties to one another, trading and defending eachother from threats. Their relationship culminated 40 years ago, 26 years after the end of the First Interstellar War, with the founding of the Union. Three races under one shared government, working together, living together, and fighting together for the greater good of all of their species. The Asathai served as the diplomats and scientists, the Krath as the soldiers and law enforcement, and the Dwerin as the engineers, craftsman and merchants (and of course miners).
Beyond a few upset separatists, the Union prospered and entered into an age of peace. Most of the colonies of the Krath and Asathai (the Dwerin had no planets) had been destroyed, and they were reduced to just a few. They had been slow to expand before the formation of the Union, but inspired by the success of the Union they expanded again, this time making joint colonies. The Dwerin had planets to live on for the first time in hundreds of years.
The Union today is on the eve of a scientific breakthrough that will change their alliance forever.

+Other: Current year in the Union is 42 UY. UY (Union Years) is the time since the Union was founded. One UY is one orbit of Verakith, the neutral world chosen as the Union's capital city. Verakith's orbit is very similar to those of the Asathai and Krath homeworlds. The individual races still make extensive use of their own time systems, UY is just the standardized version.
